What do I need to run Daoclip?
A Mac on macOS 14 (Sonoma) or newer, Apple silicon or Intel.
It is a native app — Swift, SwiftUI and AVFoundation, no Electron, no runtime to
install. Importing from a URL uses yt-dlp if you have it installed;
everything else works out of the box.
Do I need an AI subscription to use the agent?
The editor and every on-device feature work with no AI account at
all. The chat window drives an agent CLI you connect in Settings, so you use the
agent subscription you already have instead of paying us a second time. Generative
services (voices, image and video models) use your own API keys and are billed by
those providers.
Does my video get uploaded anywhere?
Not by the editor. Transcription, subject tracking, cutout,
stabilization, caption translation and every cut and render happen on your Mac.
Uploads only happen for the specific third-party service you deliberately invoke —
a text-to-speech line, a stock search, an image generation — and only what that
call needs.
Can the agent wreck my project?
Every agent edit is an ordinary undoable command: ⌘Z walks back
through them exactly like your own edits. Autosave keeps versions, there is an edit
history window, and generated media waits in an approval window before it can land
on the timeline. Export never happens on its own.
Where do my projects live?
In ~/Movies/VidHarvester as document packages —
a project file plus a Media folder you can open in Finder. Copy it to a drive, put
it in your own backup, hand it to someone else. Nothing is locked in a database or
a cloud account.
Is $175 really forever?
Yes — for the hundred licences that exist. One payment, all future
updates, no expiry date. The plan will disappear from the pricing page once the
hundredth is claimed; a licence already issued stays lifetime, and we are not going to
reinterpret that later.
Why only 100 lifetime licences?
Because a lifetime price is a bet in both directions, and it is only
a fair one early. A hundred people paying $175 today fund the months of work this app
still needs. A hundred thousand of them would fund nothing for very long, and that
ends in either broken promises or a dead app — so the number is fixed at 100, it is
not coming back as a birthday sale, and the hundred who take it keep every update for
as long as Daoclip exists.
How does activation work?
After purchase you open
daoclip.com/activate,
paste the Machine ID from the app’s License window, and submit. Licences are signed
by hand with a key that never sits on a web server — deliberately, so a server
breach cannot mint licences. Submitting the form immediately extends your access,
so you keep editing while the licence is prepared.
Can I move my licence to another Mac?
Yes. A licence is tied to one machine at a time; email
support [at] daoclip [dot] com from the address you
bought with and we move it. New Mac,
reinstall, replaced logic board — all fine.
Is there a watermark, an export cap, or a feature paywall?
No, no, and no. Trial and paid builds are the same binary with
the same features; the trial simply expires. Exports are full quality with no mark.
Which languages does the interface speak?
English, Russian, French, Spanish and Ukrainian. Captions can be
transcribed and translated separately from the interface language.
What can’t it do yet?
It is macOS only. There is no team or shared-storage
collaboration, no marketplace of ready-made templates, and no background export
queue yet — exports
run one at a time. Timeline-only keyboard trimming, optical-flow retiming and
FCPXML interchange are on the roadmap, not in the build.
Which AI agents does Daoclip work with?
Claude Code (Anthropic), Codex (OpenAI) and Antigravity (Google Gemini). Daoclip is
an MCP server, so the agent talks to the app rather than to a cloud service:
you connect the CLI in Settings and it gets the same 80+ timeline operations the
menus use. No model is bundled, and nothing stops you switching agent later.
Does Daoclip work offline?
Editing does, and so does the AI that matters day to day: transcription, captions,
subject tracking, cutout, stabilization and every export run on your Mac. A paid
licence re-checks periodically and keeps working offline for up to 72 hours
between checks. Agent chat and generative services need the network those services
need.
Can I open a Premiere Pro or Final Cut project?
Not yet — FCPXML interchange is on the roadmap. Daoclip is a standalone editor, not a
plug-in for another NLE: you bring footage, not a timeline from somewhere else.
Is there a Windows version?
Not yet — and we are working on one. No date, because the hard part
is not the window frame: transcription, subject tracking, cutout and rendering
currently lean on Apple frameworks, and each of those needs a replacement that is as
good before a Windows build deserves to ship. When it is ready you will hear about
it here; until then, treat Daoclip as a Mac app.
Is Daoclip a CapCut or Premiere alternative?
For a Mac creator cutting long recordings into vertical shorts, yes — and the
comparison above lists the rows we lose too. The short version:
Daoclip gives you an agent on a real timeline, on-device processing, project files you
own and a one-time price; CapCut and Premiere give you every platform, a big template
market and team collaboration, which Daoclip does not have.
Can I get a refund?
The 7-day trial exists so you can answer that before paying. If
something breaks for you anyway, write within 14 days of purchase and we refund —
no interrogation.
