Short version: Daoclip has no analytics, no telemetry, no crash reporter and no user account. Your footage, projects and transcripts stay on your Mac. The only thing the app sends on its own is a licence check.
The app
- Your media and projects never leave your Mac through Daoclip. Projects are
document packages in
~/Movies/VidHarvester. - On-device processing. Transcription, subject tracking, cutout, background removal, stabilization, caption translation, rendering and export all run locally using Apple frameworks.
- No usage tracking. The app contains no analytics SDK, no event logging to us, and no crash reporting service.
- API keys you enter for third-party services are stored in the macOS Keychain on your machine. We never receive them.
The licence check
To tell a licensed copy from an expired trial, the app posts one value to
daoclip.com: a machine identifier derived as a keyed hash
(HMAC-SHA256) of your Mac’s hardware UUID and account name. The raw UUID and your account
name are never transmitted, and the hash cannot be reversed into them. No file names, no
project data, no IP-based profiling beyond the ordinary web-server log of the request.
The check happens at launch and roughly every six hours while the app runs. A paid licence keeps working offline for up to 72 hours between checks.
Buying and activating
- Payment is handled by our payment provider. They receive your billing details; we receive an order record with your name and email. We never see or store card numbers.
- Activation (daoclip.com/activate) collects the email you purchased with and the machine identifier shown in the app. It is emailed to support and logged on the server so a licence can be issued. That is the whole record: email, machine identifier, timestamp.
- Support email is kept as long as needed to support you, and deleted on request.
Third-party services you choose to use
Daoclip can call outside services — text-to-speech, stock libraries, image and video
generators, model gateways — using your API key. When you invoke one, the data that
call needs (a line of text, a search query, a reference image) goes to that provider under
their privacy policy and their billing. Nothing is sent to any provider you have not set up
and invoked. Importing a video by URL uses yt-dlp on your machine and contacts
the site you named.
This website
No cookies are set, no analytics script is loaded and no consent banner is needed. Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, which sees the request for the font files. The web server keeps ordinary access logs (IP address, page, timestamp) for security and troubleshooting.
Your rights
You can ask what we hold about you, ask for a copy, or ask for deletion — write to support [at] daoclip [dot] com. Deleting a purchase record also removes the ability to reissue that licence, so we will say so before doing it.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that affects what we collect, the date above changes and the change is described here.
